To support our determination to establish consistency, we offer internships to potential staff. In Cyprus it is important that we take succession planning seriously. Whilst the content of the curriculum is well documented and ensures consistency by guiding what is taught in classrooms, it is inevitable that staff will change from time to time. In our school we have a large team of staff – larger than might be expected for a school of its size. This offers our students continuity in the event of sickness or staff changes.
Since September 2012 we have successfully engaged with an English university to access post-graduate training which we make available to individuals we feel show a strong aptitude to teach. These staff are offered employment in the school and support the teaching timetables. Alongside their work with students they follow an internationally recognised post graduate course that exposes them to an English university, pedagogically based training programme. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the individual is carried out by very experienced educationalists from the university’s teacher education faculty.
