TLC Sailing Club

Today was just the second sailing session for our enthusiastic group of students, one of whom was unwell but still went along to watch, learn and participate in any way she could. It was to be a very significant session for the group who would build on their introductory session last week when they gained both the confidence and skills to handle their PICO dinghies. To the uninitiated, last week the students were required to learn how to deal with a capsize situation within the calm confines of the harbour wall before taking to the open seas. Today would see those early skills put to the test.
It is worth pointing out that PISC is very safety conscious and all of the sessions include a safety boat. Students have also been equipped with TLC’s own Helly Hanson buoyancy jackets and safety helmets. As you will  see they are very visible in their red buoyancy jackets and yellow adventure helmets!

With the excellent support and experience of the Paphos International Sailing Club, our students are making remarkable progress. In just the second session today, having previously acquired the skills necessary to feel safe and cope with capsize, one of our students excelled! Such is her progress, that Montana took over helming before the flotilla even left the harbour. Then, after practising with her instructor on the ‘sausage course’ she told him she wanted to go solo. She then spent 30 minutes navigating the course by herself with no capsizes and came back saying she didn’t even get wet. Amazing progress after some excellent tuition!

Here at TLC Private School we are so fortunate to have such an incredible location on our doorstep, such enthusiasm and expertise amongst the school’s leadership, and of course, the outstanding cooperation of PISC, the sailing club.
