TLC Private School Gives Back to the Community this Christmas

TLC Private School has always recognised the important role it plays in the local community and this sentiment is felt even more at Christmas time.

At TLC, our culture is based upon three core elements; teaching, learning and community. Our aim is not only to provide an environment where students thrive both educationally and socially, but one which engenders a sense of respect and compassion towards others. That is why the TLC school community are ‘giving back’ this Christmas.

We are extremely pleased to have raised €1000 at our Christmas Fair which took place on Friday 2 December 2016. All proceeds have been donated to the ‘Gift of Love Appeal’, an organisation that shares our values and is as passionate about children and the community we serve as we are.

About the Fair
Each year TLC Private School holds a Christmas Fair which raises funds for school projects and this year, TLC students asked that all proceeds be donated to providing gifts for underprivileged children in the Paphos region.
Previously the school has invited external stallholders but this year they decided to do something a little different. The school introduced a ‘Young Apprentice’ style event with classes from Kindergarten through to Year 13 producing and selling their own products. In the two weeks leading up to the event, the students worked hard on their creations and on Friday 2 December they were ready to welcome parents and friends of the school to the ‘TLC Christmas Marketplace’.
Customers could choose from an array of edible festive treats, Christmas decorations, gifts and more. The event produced a real buzz and a healthy sense of competition as a prize was awarded for the team who achieved the greatest profit. The event offered an opportunity for students to develop their creative skills and understand basic business principles but more importantly, understand the true essence of Christmas.
David Lewis, the school’s Principal says, “I was very proud of our students when they requested that TLC support the ‘Gift of Love’ appeal through our Christmas Fair and doubly so, after they worked so hard to ensure that a significant amount of money was raised for children less fortunate than themselves.

At TLC Private School, education is not simply about acquiring skills and knowledge, but also about building the students’ emotional intelligence to allow them to understand the importance of their role in making the world a better place.”

About the Gift of Love
The Gift of Love Appeal ensures children from families facing severe financial difficulties receive a gift this Christmas. Paphos Municipality’s welfare department has prepared a list of children from underprivileged families who will receive help from the appeal.
Donations are used to produce bespoke shoe boxes which contain around 15 euros worth of treats which vary depending on the age. On 4 December the Gift of Love Appeal issued an urgent plea for gift boxes for children between the ages of 10 and 18 and TLC Private School hope that their donation will go some way to provide gifts for this age group.
