Sailing Club & Training at TLC

Cyprus is the perfect location for learning to sail with its calm waters, gentle winds and sunny weather. Paphos is fortunate to have a thriving sailing club community which is eager to help introduce young people to the pleasures of life on the water.

Sailing is an exciting and challenging sport and one which develops important life skills such as teamwork, resilience, adaptability and healthy competitiveness as well as getting people out into the fresh air.

This year TLC is proud to introduce sailing training courses for our older secondary students in conjunction with Paphos International Sailing Club.

PISC will provide the training dinghies – Laser Picos, for the students to use to learn the skills and they will also provide instructors who are experienced sailors in their own right. In addition, the students will get one to one training in a larger Wayfarer dinghy when appropriate.

The sail training course covers seven weeks during which the students will be learning about rigging the dinghy, safety at sea, sea and wind conditions and how to steer a dinghy around a triangular course. Students will automatically become members of Paphos International Sailing Club and, after completing the Introduction to Sailing Course through the school, will be able to continue to develop their skills further by sailing with experienced sailors at the club.

As we believe important and transferable life skills can be gained from learning to sail, the sailing course will be compulsory for all students who are 16 years old or over. As the year progresses, we hope to be able to introduce sailing training for younger students and in due course increase the size of the training fleet.

Parents are welcome to observe the training sessions or even get involved with sailing by becoming a member of the sailing club. The club has many social events which members can attend.
